The following statement applies to all St Paul's policies and will be included within each policy at the next renewal.
Young Carers at our school
At St Pauls we recognise that some pupils undertake caring responsibilities for a family member and may be identified as Young Carers. In line with Manchester Local Authority guidance and St Pauls commitment to inclusion, equality and safeguarding, Young Carers will be identified early and supported to ensure they are not disadvantaged in relation to attendance, access to learning or participation in school life. A safeguarding led approach will be adopted, recognising that caring responsibilities may impact a pupils wellbeing, emotional health and school attendance. Reasonable adjustments, pastoral support and flexible responses will be implemented where appropriate to reduce barriers to learning and promote engagement. The schools Young Carers champion Leah Simms will coordinate support, act as point of contact for pupils and families and liaise with internal staff and external agencies. Attendance, wellbeing and progress of identified young carers will be monitored with concerns reviewed and reported through established school safeguarding and inclusion processes to ensure timely and effective support.
