Welcome back to One Voice!

Christian Values- respect and honesty

What is honesty?

Honesty is where we are straightforward, truthful and open in our words and actions. It is the opposite of lying, cheating and hiding things. Honesty is a positive value and can benefit our mental health and wellbeing.

It isn’t always easy to be honest. We all struggle to be truthful at times. We all make mistakes. But being honest, even when you have done something wrong, can be brave. It can also help you learn from your mistakes so that you can be the best that you can be.

Being honest allows other people to understand our needs.

It enables us to solve problems rather than hide or ignore them.

It keeps us all safe.

Sometimes it may not feel easy but it is important that you are honest with your parents, friends and teachers. We are here to keep everyone safe and happy.

Important dates this week:

11th February is Safer Internet Day. The internet can bring us so much but can also be a dangerous place. It is important to be respectful when you are online just as you would be in real life. How can you stay safe on the internet? What should you do if something makes you feel unsafe?

12th February is International day of women and girls in science. A day to celebrate the remarkable work that females do in STEM. Do you know what these famous scientists did?

Ada Lovelace- the first computer coding

Rosalind Franklin- discovered the structure of DNA

Marie Curie- research on radioactivity contributed to cancer treatments

Discussion: Rights Respecting

Let's have a recap on the ABCDE of rights:

Can you remember what they are?

A        All children have rights                       (universal)

B        Children have rights from birth           (inherent)

C        Rights cannot be taken away             (inalienable)

D        Rights do not have to be earned        (unconditional)

E        Rights are equally important              (indivisible)

What do you think it means to be a global citizen?

A global citizen is someone who is aware of and understands the wider world – and their place in it. They are a citizen of the world. They take an active role in their community and work with others to make our planet more peaceful, sustainable and fairer.

How do you think that you are a global citizen? We will talk more about this in assembly tomorrow!

Share your thoughts with the group and remember to be a good listener whilst others are talking, you might hear something inspirational!

Positive Affirmation for today:

Practicing morning affirmations can help you start your day on the right track. It puts you in a good headspace for tackling the rest of the day. This kind of positive self-talk becomes easier with practice and when you remember them they will pop into your head when you need it most. Can you remember last weeks? (I am proud of myself)

I am brave and honest.

Thank you and have a great week and half term holiday! 😊
