Discussion- Black History Month

Every year October is Black History Month and the UK theme for 2024 is “Reclaiming Narratives,” focusing on recognising and correcting the stories of Black history and culture.

By highlighting “Reclaiming Narratives,” we aim to bring more attention to the true stories and history. It is also a time to talk about racism and how people have overcome it. As a rights respecting school we know about the rights of a child. There is also a Human Rights Act and an Equality Act that protects all humans from discrimination regardless of the colour of their skin.

Everyone has the right to be safe and respected by others. How can we be respectful and anti-racist in school? How does this fit in with our Christian values?

What can you do if you see or hear something that makes you feel uncomfortable?

Share your thoughts with the group and remember to be a good listener whilst others are talking, you might hear something inspirational!

Positive Affirmation for today:

Practicing morning affirmations can help you start your day on the right track. It puts you in a good headspace for tackling the rest of the day. This kind of positive self-talk becomes easier with practice and when you remember them they will pop into your head when you need it most. Can you remember last weeks? (I make good choices)

I speak kind words.

Thank you and have a great week! 😊
